Have you ever danced in the garden in the pale moo Have you ever danced in the garden in the pale moonlight? Today we celebrate the full moon garden and the Worm Moon of 2023. With a name like 'Worm Moon' one would expect the soil to warm and the worms to crawl. In 1760, Cpt Jonathan Carver visited some Native American tribes in Dakota and labelled 'worms' as beetle larvae that began to emerge from the thawing bark of trees around the time of the full moon in March. Of course, in our lower mainland region, our trees rarely freeze to that extent. With the Worm Moon in March, our soils start to warm, the worms begin to crawl and the Robins start to feed. Both stories are relevant to regions across the continent. Many names for the March Moon refer to the transition from Winter to Spring; Eagle Moon, Goose Moon or Crow Comes Back Moon, Sugar Moon, The Wind Strong Moon, The Sore Eyes Moon - to name a few.
Many gardeners today are drawn to the chic look of white-on-white blooms with black, green, blue & silver foliage accents. During a full Moon, or with garden accent lighting, this gardening style becomes alive at night and radiantly glows.
Get inspired to create a moonlit garden of blooms & foliage.
